Controller - EuroMed Rights

EuroMed Rights is looking for a dynamic and dedicated Controller to join its Copenhagen team. Your role, combining both project and financial controlling, will be key to support the CFO in the financial management of the organization. Junior profiles will be considered. Having a background in accounting and speaking French are assets.   

EuroMed Rights is one of the biggest and most active networks of human rights organisations in the Euro-Mediterranean region. Created in 1997, we currently encompass 92 organisations from 30 countries. We have offices in Copenhagen, Tunis, and Brussels. We work primarily on promoting and protecting human rights and democracy in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean regions and on influencing the policies of major European actors towards these areas.

Tasks and assignments

The financial controller works most closely with the finance team across our three offices – Copenhagen, Brussels and Tunis. A limited amount of travel to EuroMed Rights offices is to be expected (up to 10 days a year). The Financial Controller will work, under the supervision of, and, according to priorities set by the CFO, and will be responsible for:

Project control (70% of your time):

  • Development of project budgets
  • Analysing deviations of actuals from budgeted costs
  • Liaison with budget holders – proactively and upon request
  • Financial project reporting for portfolio of projects, coordination of project audits
  • Ad hoc tasks delegated by the CFO
  • Back-up to Project Financial Controllers

Financial control and analysis (30% of your time):

  • Checking accuracy of the financial booking
  • Supporting development of the organisational annual budget.
  • Analysing deviations of actuals from budgeted costs
  • Participating in implementing controlling processes and procedures and updating the finance manual accordingly
  • Supporting the development of the overall financial management and systems across the organizations
  • Preparation of various files for the auditors and coordination of annual and donor audit processes
  • Support controlling of operational budgets for the local office, as well as the financial management of the local office.

Profile, skills and background 

Business and/or auditing education with minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience as project controller or financial controller – preferably from NGO sector at international level. Ideally, you have education and/or experience in accounting. You are an excellent user of Microsoft Excel, comfortable with pivot tables and complex formulas. Experience with Power BI, Power Query or other similar software is a plus but not a must. Having knowledge of Dynamics NAV 2018 is an advantage. You are fluent in oral and written English, and French proficiency is a plus.
