Interview Caroline Ferrari the French Ambassador in Denmark

After more than 3 years spent in Denmark, Caroline Ferrari, the French Ambassador in Denmark, will finish her mission at the end of this month.

Prior to leaving Copenhagen, the Ambassador kindly agreed to an interview about her experiences in Denmark.

- What is the next step of your professional career?
After more than 3 years in Copenhagen, my mission will reach an end, at the end of the year. In January, I will join the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, as a Deputy Secretary General. New challenges await me, but my experiences as Ambassador in Denmark have given me so much, both professionally and personally.

- How do you assess your Danish experience?
I have been very happy to work together with my team in order to deepen Franco-Danish relations in all areas of common interest, particularly within the field of economic relations. Thanks to the state visit of the President of the Republic in Copenhagen in the end of August 2018, and the royal visit organized in Paris in October 2019, our nations’ cooperation has developed significantly, in particular within the fields of health and energy transition. These are two areas where we share the same ambitions and desire to propose viable solutions for our countries, for Europe, and beyond. Danish investments in France have increased significantly in recent years, with 2020 representing a record year for Danish investments in France, which is a very positive indication for the future. Despite COVID, the level of trade has remained high and we have achieved a positive trade balance with Denmark.

- What were the highlights of your mission?
There are many to choose from, but the official announcement in February 2019 of the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in Copenhagen, was a particularly special moment that I will cherish and a great moment of joy for both sides. I remember the emotional words of HRH the Crown Prince spoken in French! I was also very impressed by my visits to Jutland, Funen, Bornholm, but also by my two trips to Greenland and my visit on the Faroe Islands, which all had a great impact on me. You will never truly understand Denmark if you only stay in Copenhagen.

- What will you miss about your life in Copenhagen?
The view of Kongens Nytorv, in any season, day or night. The Danish press, which I followed daily. The return of spring after a long winter. And the smile of the Danes.

- Will we have the chance to see you again for the Grand Départ of the Tour de France?
I would be delighted to participate, but unfortunately, I will most likely be following through a screen just like millions of other viewers. I hope to see you on the Champs Elysées on the 24th of July.

Until then, I wish you god jul og godt Nytår!

The Danish-French Chamber of Commerce, the members of the board, and all of our members would like to thank Caroline FERRARI for the great collaboration that we have enjoyed during these last 3 years, and for her fantastic support for the Chamber and our activities. It has been a true pleasure working together.
