Entry into Denmark – Business update - May 25

On the 20th of May, the Danish government held a press conference in which they expanded the second reopening phase following the coronavirus crisis.

The necessary documentation for entering Denmark on a business visit are as follows, stated on the webpage of the Danish Business Authority:

If you are a business traveler, where there already is an existing contract, you must be able to provide the following documentation upon request at the border:

Documentation of the contractual relationship, for example a contract.

If you are a business traveler, where there is no existing contract, you must be able to provide the following documentation upon request at the border:

Documentation of the planned meeting in the form of an e-mail or other correspondence, and
contact information of the relevant contact person for the meeting, who can confirm the meeting and the necessity of carrying it out by physical presence.

For employees wishing to cross the border into Denmark:

A Danish citizen or a person with legal residence in Denmark must be able to provide one of the following types of documentation upon request at the border:

Danish passport; or
Danish residence permit.

A frontier worker who works in Denmark but resides in another EU/EEA country must be able to provide one of the following types of documentation upon request at the border in addition to ordinary ID:

Special health insurance card from Denmark; or
a contract of employment which states that the place of employment is in Denmark; or
a paycheck from a Danish company.

A posted worker who is posted by an employer located in another EU/EEA country to work in Denmark temporarily must be able to provide one of the following types of documentation upon request at the border in addition to ordinary ID:

A contract of employment which states that the place of employment is in Denmark; or
documentation for social security (A1 form) which is issued by the authorities in the country of the employer/self-employed in relation to work in another EU/EEA country; or
receipt of registration in RUT (Register of Foreign Service Providers). The receipt must be forwarded from employer to employee. The receipt does not state concrete names which can be checked in the registry.

Below is an excerpt from the press conference focusing on tourism and entry into Denmark:

“As the second phase of a controlled reopening agreement states, the parties have noted that the government is currently in dialogue with neighboring countries and will decide on the temporary border control of entry bans as well as the enhanced travel guides. In this regard, the parties note that the government is proposing a plan for controlled and gradual reopening of summer tourism, based on health safety measures and which provides the tourism industry with clarity. The Government announces this by 29 May 2020.

The parties also note that the government has decided to extend the list of recognized purposes for entry into Denmark as of Monday, May 25, 2020.

The extension will apply to people with permanent residence in the Nordic countries and Germany, who can enter for a variety of purposes, including holiday home-owners, people in relationships, fiancé’s, grandparents, etc. Furthermore, a healthy resumption of business travel to and from Denmark will be opened in accordance with the guidelines of the sector partnership.”

Can my spouse enter Denmark?

”Spouses, live-in partners, parents and children of a Danish national resident in Denmark or a foreigner resident in Denmark on the condition that the arriving foreign family member otherwise has a legal right to enter Denmark.”
