Gala dinner 2022 - Vive le Tour

Finally, after 2 years of pandemic, the Danish-French Chamber of Commerce was once again able to organize its annual gala dinner for our members. The summer of 2022 marks a remarkable event in Danish-French relations, namely the first ever Grand Départ of the Tour de France on Danish turf, which was the theme of this celebratory evening.

We were fortunate enough to welcome – besides our treasured members and sponsors – several high-profile guests at this year’s edition. Christian Prudhomme, Director of the Tour de France (ASO), was in Denmark as part of the preparations for the Grand Départ and came to speak at our gala. He provided insights of the Tour and how big of an event this truly is, along with what the implications will be for the already close Danish-French relations. Christian Prudhomme was awarded the Chamber’s honorary price for his contributions to promoting French culture in DK through the Tour.

However, the Tour de France is by no means the only remarkable development in Danish-French relations to have materialized this year. The Chamber is pleased to have played part in the long-awaited signing of the new double taxation agreement between our two great nations, which is sure to further strengthen our commercial ties in the years to come. Danish Minister of Taxation, Jeppe Bruus, was present on the evening to mark this achievement.

As per tradition, the gala also hosted the Chamber’s annual Export Prize, award to each a French and a Danish company to mark their successful developments in their respective host economies. Air Liquide was the French winners for their continuously impressive Danish activities, highlighted with the inauguration of their Pårup Filling plant in 2021. Christian Tomsen, Managing Director Nordic countries, was representing Air Liquide for the award ceremony. Novo Nordisk France was the other winner, for their continued dedication to their presence in the French market, exemplified through their long-term investments in the Chartes plant generating jobs and economic growth. David Ester and Théo Klargaard were representing Novo and receiving the award. The awards were handed-over by Jeppe Bruus, and Marie-Pierre Vedrenne (French Deputy at the European Parliament). Thank you for showcasing France and Denmark as compatible business partners, and inspiring others to follow your path!

However, during these troublesome times on the European continent it is inappropriate to celebrate without consideration for the situation in Ukraine. Per Stig Møller, former Danish foreign minister, talked about the unfolding situation and the prospects for democracy after the war. The Ukrainian ambassador to Denmark, Mykhailo Vydoinyk, was also present on the evening and received the check of the donations from our charity auction. Thank you to all the companies who donated gifts: Simone Pérèle, L’éducation Nationale, Legrand, AirFrance-KLM, ASO, Moët & Hennessy, Berlitz, Letz Shop, TotalEneriges, Grand Chais de France, Rolf Sørensen, and the French Embassy. The auction amounted to nearly 60.000 DKK raised which has been donated to a children’s hospital in Kharkiv and the purchase of essential medical equipment.

The gala was also backed by our supporting sponsors: Moët & Hennessy, Legal Inside, Winning Team, and Capgemini.
Lastly, we would like to thank our main sponsors for this event: TotalEnergies and Legrand. Without your dedicated support for the Chamber, this gala would not have been possible.

This year also marked the 10 year anniversary of Anders Torbøl’s presidency as Chairman at the Danish-French Chamber of Commerce. We would like to thank Anders for his continued dedicated to the work of the Chamber.

Thank you to all who participated. We are looking forward to seeing you all again next year for our 40 years anniversary!
